This budget-friendly, two-day gorilla trek safari will lead you to the misty Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home to over half of the remaining 880 mountain gorillas. The forest also offers excellent bird-watching opportunities, cultural experiences, and stunning views of hills and lush vegetation that are home to the elusive primates. The trip’s highlight is the sight of gorilla families eating, playing, and interacting very similarly to human families.
Our driver will meet you at your hotel in Kigali and transfer you to Kisoro town. The four-hour journey to Kisoro will include crossing the border. You will need an East African Visa, which is obtainable from the first East African country you visit (Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda participate in the East African Visa Program). Along the way, you will have spectacular views of the terraces of the Ugandan and Rwandan mountains. This area is known as the 'Switzerland of Africa.' You will arrive late in the afternoon, have the opportunity to enjoy a self-guided walk in nearby villages, and then have dinner and stay overnight.
You will wake up early this morning and drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for the upcoming gorilla trek. Trekking the mountain gorilla is one of the most exciting wildlife experiences on earth. The trek will take two to six hours, but it is well worth the effort. You will be led by an experienced ranger who will share interesting facts about flora, fauna, and the lifestyle of the gorillas. You will spend one hour with the gorillas, then return to the lodge, have lunch, check out, and transfer back to Kigali and drop you at your hotel.
